Abstract
[Extract] Nietzsche had a profound kinship with Shakespeare because he was fundamentally a dramatic thinker, apprehending the world through notions of character and action. For Nietzsche, and, I will suggest, for Shakespeare, ideas and values were never abstract propositions, the truth or falsehood of which was logically or empirically testable. Rather they were elements of a particular life – attractive or repellent, inspiring or miserable.
